As European Union leaders have granted the UK a six-month extension to Brexit, we are now into our second ‘extension’ period, with the Prime Minister in further talks with the Labour Party on Brexit. The ‘new’ deadline of 31st October 2019 is conditional upon the UK holding European elections on 23rd May, or it will have to leave on 1st June without a deal. Current evidence suggests that the UK is likely to hold European Parliament elections on 23rd May. Against the background of this further extension the European Council has reiterated that there can be no re-opening of the withdrawal agreement negotiations.
